Brexit in Luxembourg

From January 31st 2020, at midnight, the United Kingdom and the European Union parted ways after 47 years and the British community in Luxembourg marked the moment with deep sadness. I joined them to see how the Brexit looks from Luxembourg. It feels a bit weird to come back to the blog with a sad event, but it was a historic moment and I simply had to document it. I started the evening at the church of St Alphonse on rue des Capucins, where the Anglican Church of Luxembourg organised a Brexit vigil, together with British Immigrants Living In Luxembourg …

Snow in Luxembourg

Snow in Luxembourg is so rare that each time I started to write this post the snow was already gone before I published it. Winters in Luxembourg are pretty mild, but every once in a while it starts snowing and, sometimes, we have proper snow for a few hours or days. Yet, in that short snowy period, Luxembourg city becomes a magical fairy tale land. I was lucky enough to be able to photograph the snow this winter and, to me, it was one of the best photo sessions ever. Partly because it rarely happens, but mostly because the way …

Schueberfouer

Schueberfouer has been around for almost 700 years. In 2017, it will be its 677th edition, between August 23rd and September 11th. It’s the biggest and oldest funfair in Luxembourg and some say it’s the oldest in the world, although this is questionable, as it was just a huge market at first, when it was founded by John the Blind, on 20th of October 1340. The shows, concerts and fun games only appeared after 450 years, in the 18th century, and the Schueberfouer was moved to its actual site, in the place called Glacis Square today (Fouerplaatz) – which usually …

Street A(rt)nimation

Photos from Street A(rt)nimation 2017 in Luxembourg city! For those who don’t know, leaving Luxembourg is extremely easy, as it is very well connected with the rest of Europe. Also, considering that most people living in Luxembourg city are expats, there would be high chances for the city to be pretty empty during the summer. But they thought about this and they found a solution, called Summer in the City! Every year, from 21 June to 7 September, the city puts on festive clothes and celebrates the most beautiful season of the year. Festivals, concerts, street animation, a huge funfair, …

Dear Tripod, I’m sorry

Dear Tripod, I woke up this morning thinking about you again. Flashes of our wonderful times together passed before my eyes, while I was still too sleepy to understand anything else, yet I was well aware that I have failed you. I’m sorry, Tripod. What a history do we have, right? We had explored¬†every little corner of Luxembourg and we’d seen half of Europe together. Days and nights, just you and me on empty streets, above misty hills or under lonely bridges, shooting countless photos and videos. You were too heavy at times, but I held you. When I was …
